Our local guide will wait for you in Bambú, next to the grocer’s shop Maruja. Before beginning the trip we will indicate security measures to be taken during the journey. After putting on lifejackets we will begin the adventure on the Yorkin River. During the trip the guide will talk about details of the Yorkin River and the surrounding nature. We remind you that this is an important river as it is a natural border between Panama and Costa Rica. Because it is navigable it is used for daily activities in the transport of people, merchandize and food. During the dry season in some parts of the river one must get out of the boat and push but not to worry as it is part of the adventure!
After arrival to the Yorkin community and a 15 minute hike accompanied by your guide you will pass through the community on your way to the hostel. You will receive a refreshing tropical juice and sandwich. You will then receive a talk about our association, on activities that we will have, and behavior regulations in the community.
You will have a guided hike through our farm learning about the medicinal plants, organic production and fruit. You will visit the community’s elementary school, high school, and traditional houses.
Lunch will be specially prepared for you to taste our local food and produce from the garden.
There will be a presentation on the processing of cocoa in chocolate, our traditional drink that was utilized by our ancestors in ceremonies, births, and healings.
There will be a presentation on the use of the bow and arrow. Presently we don’t encourage hunting but you can practice using as a target the juicy banana flower. Don’t be afraid to try and pass the test! After this you are invited to visit the handicrafts we make that you can have as souvenirs.
